That business about freedom of speech and the press is in the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights, so it is, like, an American value.

Donald Trump is the president of the United States and, so, any criticism of the government, political advocacy, and advocacy of unpopular ideas that he may find distasteful or against public policy are almost always permitted. He cannot sue those who criticize him for what he does as a government official.

He claims there are passages in “Fire and Fury that MAY be false, he certainly don’t like them, and so his lawyers have informed the author and the publisher,

“Mr. Trump hereby demands that you immediately cease and desist from any further publication, release or dissemination of the book.”

Mr. Trump says that the book is filled with libel, and its only purpose is to have him look bad. He does not like the idea that someone would pass on things that are not true, accept things without verification, or simply make things up to hurt someone to their advantage. People shouldn’t attempt to promote themselves and benefit by slamming others.

And he will ignore the First Amendment an attempt to make it unlawful.

He seems to forget his own M.O.

-March 20th, 2017, said, “The NSA and FBI tell Congress that Russia did not influence electoral process.”

-Thursday, April 7th, 2011, said that President Obama’s “grandmother in Kenya said he as born in Kenya and she was there and witnessed the birth.”

In summary, when he says they said it, they didn’t. When he says they didn’t say it, they did.

If he says they did something, they didn’t. When he says they didn’t do something, they did.

And in this way he promoted his celebrity and his candidacy for office.

A reminder to Mr. Trump:

LIBEL: a published false statement that is damaging to a person’s reputation.

He may want to move cautiously on this libel thing.
