God locked out? Pfffft

There is a tired meme that pops up after each school shooting that has one person asking why people with guns can get into a school and shoot it up. The response is that he could get in because God is locked out.

It is usually posted and shared by the christian prayer in public school crowd and implies that shootings would not happen if christian prayers were allowed in school. Generally I have had it forwarded to me by the same people who demand students should be saying the Pledge of Allegiance, obviously promoting a false cause because they already do.

The meme, however, ignores two things.

Kids can pray in school, but the authorities can neither direct them to nor tell them what prayers to say.

It also ignores that where God is, beyond His being everywhere, there are still shootings, and some happen in his very houses, churches, where He is obviously not locked out.

There’s even this gem.

The Superintendent of Education in South Carolina, Molly Spearman, commented in a video in response to the Parkland school shooting  that keeping students safe was her top priority, and she had been meeting with law enforcement officials to make sure they’re doing everything they can to prevent similar violence in her district. Her advice to report any strange behavior and her words about the importance of making sure students had access to mental health professionals was reasonable, but then she went off the rails when she said that the students need to be brought closer to Jesus.

“… We have also seen the life-changing impact that mentorship programs can bring into troubled students’ lives, and continue to encourage members of our faith community to partner with schools. By sharing Christ’s love, you could be a positive influence that prevents a tragedy like this from occurring.”

This is a list of shootings in the House of God where He is not locked out, or perhaps forget His keys and locked himself out.

Certainly, God was not locked out of those places, and in most of these cases prople were praying and others preaching.

God being locked out of schools as the reason for shootings is  ans asinine distraction, and those who promote it are using tragedies to scare people to their religious beliefs.

Schools don’t need more God. They need fewer unnecessary guns in their communities and politicians willing to stand up to the NRA.
