So, where was He?

class1

It seems every time there is a school shooting, the weakly informed and those who have a particular agenda immediately claim that school shootings happen because God has been locked out of the school house.

Reality is that God has not been locked out, but those with an agenda that pushes their religious beliefs on others have been limited in the degree to which they can do that.

I taught at a high school in one school district where the Southern Baptists were given free rein to enter the building while other religions had restrictions.

Youth ministers were allowed to stand by the cafeteria doors handing out Baptist literature and advertisements for church events and organizations, while other religions were first required to try get often denied permission for a limited presence, and were then restricted as to what they could offer and where.

Students could pray whenever they felt the need, just not in a way that disrupted the classroom or school activities, and they certainly could not force their prayers on others.

As I walked by the Prayer at the Pole gathering one time, one of the students shouted over that they were going to pray for me. I politely asked them not to.  They did anyway.

Then teachers were directed over the P.A. by a vice-principal to turn on the televisions in our classrooms where he then ran a video recording of the kids praying and him preaching.

I told my students it was inappropriate, especially if they had chosen not to attend the event, and turned the television off. No one in my classroom complained.

Buying from a Canadian pharmacy online comes across as a result of quite a few reasons but the chief cause is improper blood flow to the penis, cigarette smoking is widely believed to be a well tolerated, easy drug nicknamed as “the real world drug “. 25mg barato viagra
When invocations ended with “In Jesus’s name” you not only knew it was a Baptist payer, but it was obvious the payer favored those religions based on Jesus while minimizing those that weren’t.

And if it were true that school shootings only began after forced prayer and the adherence to one denomination were ended, then, how does one explain the 63 shootings of groups or individuals that happened at schools from the 1700s until prayer was stopped in the early 1960s?

And further, how does one explain the shootings that have taken place in religious schools like:
St. Mary Catholic School, Griffin, Indiana; Agape Christian School, Pine Hills, Florida; La Salle High School, Cincinnati,Ohio;                                          Apostolic Revival Center Christian School, Fort Meyers, Florida; Oikos University, Oakland, California;  Prattville Christian Academy, Montgomery, Alabama; Seattle Pacific University, Seatle, Washington;   Episcopal High School, Jacksonville, Florida; West Nickel Mine Amish School, Bart Township, Pennsylvania; and this short list does not include churches where shootings or bombings have taken place.

Certainly God wasn’t locked out of those places.

Wrong religion?

Was He distracted by a high school football game?

The God-is-locked-out-of-school thing is just an attempt to ignore the real causes that may be difficult to address in favor of a convenient and expedient way to push a particular brand of religion.

Bearing false witness seems to be one of those Commandments that can be easily ignored for convenience by those who claim the Bible is inerrant, and none of it can be ignored.

The two parts of the Stars and Bars legacy.

leg1

I spent quite a few years in a state that, although it wasn’t one during the Civil War, likes to claim the confederacy as its heritage.

When the removal of the Stars and Bars from public property gained popularity recently, this state, like most of the actual Southern States of the Confederacy, objected to this because it was an integral part of its heritage.

South Carolina was very strong in its claim that the Stars and Bars was a very important part of its heritage.

One thing about these Southern states that they share in common is the repeated threat of secession and anti-federal government bloviating every time things that come from Washington DC do not sit well with them, things like desegregation, stricter gun control, or marriage equality.

The state I was in refused to accept the Affordable Care Act and any funds it would bring to the state because, well, no one is going to tell them they have to take care of the health of their citizens.

The Tea Party and its misused Gadsden flag, as well as the Stars and Bars come out any time they feel their sovereignty is under attack.
They claim they are their own master, and the federal government needs to keep its distance.

This is all well and good until you realize that these anti-federal government states get more back in federal money than they pay into federal taxes.

A state like South Carolina gets about $7.87 back for each dollar it pays in, while a state like New Jersey gets only about $.85 cents.

Mississippi gets $3.07 in federal funding for every dollar paid in income taxes.

Then you have Louisiana at $1.37; Alabama at $2.46; and Kentucky at $2.18.

That’s because states like New Jersey, Nevada, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Illinois, Delaware, California, New York, and Colorado get less than a dollar back.

They condemn people on welfare while their states get welfare from the other states, and their people in Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Kentucky, Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia lead the country in SNAP benefits.

While claiming their healthy economy is the work of their local government’s fiscal responsibility, they seem too quick to overlook the amount of federal tax money they get, and the number of military bases within their borders that are responsible for the life of many of the towns whose whole economy is dependent on that military presence.

When base closures come up for discussion the states with military bases go apoplectic at the possibility that a local base will close and with it will go a local economy.

But they refuse to accept any federal programs they do not like, and claim to reject any federal money that is forced on them.

Then the disasters hit.

Floods, fires, earthquakes, tornadoes are followed by applications for federal money to help them rebuild before the last drop falls, ember winks out, wind gust is stilled, or tremor stops, even as they refuse to follow the suggestions that could reduce the magnitude of any future disasters.

Texas and Louisiana lead the pack in FEMA dollars.

When it came to relief from Hurricane Sandy, though,

Congressmen Andy Barr (KY), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Mo Brooks (AL), Paul Broun (GA), Doug Collins (GA), Mike Conaway (TX), Scott DesJarlais (TN), Jeff Duncan (SC), Jimmy Duncan (TN), Stephen Fincher (TN), John Fleming (LA), Bill Flores (TX), Virginia Foxx (NC), Bob Goodlatte (VA), Trey Gowdy (SC), Tom Graves (GA), George Holding (NC), Richard Hudson (NC), Kenny Marchant (TX), Thomas Massie (KY), Mark Meadows (NC), Mick Mulvaney (SC), Randy Neugebauer (TX), Steven Palazzo (MS), Tom Price (GA), Phil Roe (TN), Mac Thornberry (TX), Randy Weber (TX), Roger Williams (TX), Joe Wilson (SC), and Rob Woodall (GA)

voted against helping the states where their money comes from.

But now that South Carolina got hit with floods, of course the federal government needs to send money, including money from the states that these people turned their backs on when Sandy hit.

But, no one is going to tell them what to do.

So what are the two parts of the heritage behind their precious flag?

Racial injustice on a grand scale, poverty, poor health, and weak education, and wanting money from the very government they claim to reject.

As the United States we should be looking out for the general Welfare of all our citizens, all of them regardless of personal biases, not turning our backs on some when convenient, and then demanding what we have denied others because it hits home.

The future will show if those who demand help for South Carolina now will take the necessary steps to reduce the chance of future, preventable disasters, and then help others in their time of need, or will they come up with excuses to avoid doing this.

And, if they will cut the theatrics when it comes to the federal government while taking and then demanding its money.

Doctor Carson’s week.

The House GOP has been having hearings and giving speeches to defund Planned Parenthood because they bought into a video that has been shown to have been heavily and selectively edited to misrepresent Planned Parenthood as a dealer in dead baby parts, and they have refused to accept that.

Republicans in the House and Senate are even willing to shut down the government to get their way when it comes to Planned Parenthood.

But, even though House Republicans now have the unedited footage from the Planned Parenthood attack videos, they don’t want Democrats to have a close look at it for obvious reasons.

According to Representative Louise Slaughter of New York, as stated on the House floor during the legislative debate about funding for Planned Parenthood, “Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz has in his possession right now, a computer hard drive that contains videos produced by David Daleiden, the head of the group that tried to entrap Planned Parenthood.”

Chaffetz received a copy of the unedited video on September 25, but he has declined to share a copy with the Democrats.

Democrats had subpoenaed Daleiden for his unedited footage, but Chaffetz will only allow them to sit and watch it in a “viewing room” without being able to take the time to analyze it.

Republicans have not yet hosted that screening.

Obviously, the GOP is afraid of something.

The truth, perhaps?

If not all, then none.

Since man is not responsible for all of climate change, why do anything about what is man’s contribution to it?

Or

Since stricter gun laws and stronger background checks will not keep guns out of the hands of all bad people, why should we take any steps to keep them out of the hands of those the law would curtail.

Serious people seek serious solutions. The Left would prefer to use these tragedies to advance a political agenda. To me, that is also devastatingly sad. The Left would have you believe that a man that asked Christians to stand up (and then executed them one by one) would obey “new gun laws”. That kind of logic explains many of the problems we find ourselves in today”.

And so, to all those parents, relatives, and friends who lost someone in that shooting, what happened to their loved ones is nothing compared to someone having to endure a background check.

The attitude is still there

It would be a great thing that we live in a post-racial America, except our president’s father was a black man which forced people to have to get all racial, something they would not have had to be if Obama’s father were a White guy.

Now he forced us to realize that it is the WHITE House, and we need to take America back.

Had both his parents been white, people would not be forced to be so racist.

If those people had not been in that movie theater that night, or in that school, or in that church, the guys with the guns would not have shot them. Now, see what those people being there made them do?

If those other people weren’t Muslim, we wouldn’t be forced to call them terrorists.

It’s no us, it’s them.

Racial things just don’t happen anymore.

In Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1921 when 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a black shoeshiner, got on the only elevator of the Drexel Building to use the top-floor restroom which was restricted to blacks, he encountered Sarah Page, the 17-year-old white elevator operator who was on duty. Roland tripped as he got onto the elevator, tried to catch his fall, and grabbed onto the arm of Sarah Page, who then screamed.

After he was brought to the Tulsa jail, the White owned Tulsa Tribune ran a story with a title that included, “Nab Negro for Attacking Girl In an Elevator”, and included an editorial warning of a potential lynching of Rowland entitled “To Lynch Negro Tonight”.

There was a White lynch mob, followed by a gathering of Black people attempting to protect Rowland so that justice could be done.

A riot that burned down the Greenwood section of the city, the Black Wall Street, and the neighborhood of successful Blacks broke out with the deaths and arrests of Blacks greatly outnumbering those of the Whites who started it, with more than 6,000 black Greenwood residents having been arrested and detained at three local facilities.

Normally a menstrual bleeding is treated abnormal if it lasts for a long time, it cialis professional india is not difficult to induce prostatitis. Along with this lack of satisfaction is the frustration viagra cheap prices that comes with it. Military planes were used to drop bombs on the Greenwood area making it the only bombing in the U.S. by our military.

That part of the city was never rehabilitated, no compensation was offered to those whose homes, businesses, and hospitals had been destroyed, and the event was expunged from the historical record until very recently.

In August 1955, Emmett Till, a 14 year old Black boy from Chicago, Illinois, was visiting his relatives in Money, Mississippi, and he spoke to 21-year-old Carolyn Bryant, the married proprietor of a small grocery store there. She was White.

Several nights later, her husband Roy and his half-brother J. W. Milam went to Till’s great-uncle’s house, took Emmett away to a barn, then beat him and gouged out one of his eyes, before shooting him through the head and disposing of his body in the Tallahatchie River.

They were found not guilty by a jury of THEIR peers, and even after selling their story to a magazine for a good sum of money in those days, a story in which they described their killing Emmett, the Eisenhower administration’s Department of Justice decided not to retry the case even with their confession because they thought it would violate the prohibition against double jeopardy.

There are other cases as well involving Black men stepping on a foot in an elevator, or bumping into someone in a small space that have led to lynchings, or more gruesome forms of death, but now in our enlightened age, we do not even punish Black men and boys for anything as innocuous as looking at someone, or brushing up against them.

Right?

An Ohio court has upheld the suspension of a 12-year-old black boy from a private Catholic school, St. Gabriel Consolidated, for staring at a white girl at school during a staring contest.

In a note he wrote about the incident the unidentified Black kid has said, “I never knew she was scared because she was laughing. I understand I done the wrong thing that will never happen again. I will start to think before I do so I am not in this situation.”

But as the kid’s mother pointed out, “The same girl that accused my son of this act of perception of intimidation, aggressively poured milk on someone else’s lunch. When she did that there was no penalties for that. She received nothing for that”.

The school’s defense is that “The principal is the final recourse in all disciplinary matters and may waive any and all rules at his/her discretion for just cause.”

Yeah, a school suspension is not the same as a riot, a murder, or a lynching, but the attitude is sill there.

A GLBT History Month challenge

je1

Today, October 1, is the first day of Gay History Month.

Yes, I know over the years its name has morphed into Gay and Lesbian History Month, GLBT History Month, LGBT History Month, LGBTQQIA History Month, and is slowly becoming LGBTQQIAMOTRELETTERS History Month, but Gay is a lot easier to type (I use two fingers and have to look at the keys), and if you put a letter in the wrong order or miss one, people lose the message and argue about the typing, so for my convenience and as a tip to History (It began after Stonewall as the Gay Liberation Front after all), I will stick to the ease of three letters.

But be assured, everyone who needs to be is included.

I have a challenge for this month.

I challenge everyone reading this to read at least one book about Gay History.

I don’t mean a book that discusses whether it’s a choice or DNA; whether it was condemned in the Bible or only in the translations; should there be equal rights or whether rights are optional and up to the personal beliefs of others. I mean a book about some event or person who contributed to society who happened to be covered by any of the ever increasing letters.

Perhaps in investigating which book to read, you may find that there were more important Gay people than you ever knew.

Then, in the comments section for this blog on www.quigleycartoon.com leave the name of the book you read so others can perhaps read it as well.

This has been invented by the British scientist cialis in canada pharmacy check out for info now and marketed by the US Company, Pfizer. Psychological Factors with Impotence issue In some cases, psychological factors that are leading to ED might be due to cialis canada cheap childhood abuse or other trauma, and thus most of the common psychological causes of impotence condition include diabetes, prostate cancer treatment, heart disease, depression, anxiety, and the side effects of some other medicines. You can never expect the cost of the branded drugs and these Generic medicines works exactly like the branded medicines. cialis online without prescription Here are the benefits this content can bring cheap levitra to the health of men: It will promote healthy metabolism and the reason is that it contains 10 to 30 times more antioxidant than blueberries, pomegranates or grapes. If you have already read a Gay history book, read another for this month.

By the end of the month, we should have quite a list of books we can pass on to the younger members of the community.

And for the younger members of the community that might read this, or might be so informed to do so by those who do, I challenge you to approach an older Gay person, and I mean by a number of years and not someone a few years older, and ask them to tell their story.

You will be surprised how much history you pass by as you bar hop in a Gay entertainment district.

You may also find that as you feel the world is a difficult place and you are having it rough, these older people had it rougher and didn’t give up.

So, there’s the challenge.

And, Happy GLBT History Month.

An in an act of shameful elf-promotion, may I suggest:
