Things like this will kill religion

In December, Senators Cory Booker, Senator Kamala Harris, and Senator Tim Scott, Two Democrats and one Republican, reintroduced a bill, Justice for Victims of Lynching Act, which had failed when previously introduced 20 times because of the known lynchings of at least 4,742 people, mostly Black, between 1882 and 1968.

This time, it was passed unanimously by the U.S. Senate.

The bill will apply to lynchings motivated by a victim’s “actual or perceived religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.”

But, because of the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity, the Liberty Counsel an Evangelical nonprofit is calling for an amendment to the anti-lynching bill to remove that when the bill reaches the House.

.Liberty Counsel Chairman Mat Staver warned that offering protection for the GLBT community would allow its members to win more rights in future.

“The old saying is once that camel gets the nose in the tent, you can’t stop them from coming the rest of the way in. This is a way to slip it in under a so-called anti-lynching bill, and to then to sort of circle the wagon and then go for the juggler [sic] at some time in the future.”

Imagine the horror of all U.S. citizens having the same rights.

You have to live the bigots someone they can harm.

In spite of Staver’s comment Liberty Counsel claims that saying it is okay with lynching members of the GLBT Community is “false reporting”.

A statement released said,

“Some media have falsely reported that Liberty Counsel is opposed to banning lynching, or, opposes banning lynching of LGBT people. Such reporting is false, reckless, and offensive,”

And included a statement by Staver which said,

“No one can or should oppose a bill that bans lynching… We oppose lynching across the board for any person. Period!”

But wouldn’t wanting to remove people in the bill, or preventing a targeted group from being included imply they could be lynched?

Someone is going to assume that since they aren’t mentioned in the bill, GLBT people are not protected.

The Liberty Counsel has been branded an anti-LGBT “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
