“If they had protection inside, the results would have been far better. If they had some kind of protection inside the temple, maybe it could have been a much different situation. But they didn’t.”

Not really in sync with his sentiment in his inaugural address that,

“This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.”

Previously in response to the shooting in Las Vegas, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders may have repeated President Donald Trump’s condolences to the victims and families of those who were killed and injured, but then immediately pivoted to the mantra “this is not the time”.

“This is an unspeakable tragedy. Today is a day for consoling the survivors mourning those we lost. There’s a time and place for a political debate, but now is the time to unite as a country.”

Apparently protecting us from mass shootings is a political thing not a personal safety thing?

“There is an ongoing law enforcement investigation. It would be premature for us to discuss policy when we don’t know all of the facts.”

She went on to say,

 “We don’t want to try to create laws that won’t stop these kinds of things from happening. Before we need to start talking about the preventions, we need to know more facts. The only person with blood on their hands is the shooter and this isn’t a time for us to go after.”

After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Florida, when asked if he thought it was the appropriate time to begin the discussion about gun control reform, Marco Rubio intoned the mantra.

“It’s not, only because people don’t know how this happened… who this person is, what motivated them, how did they get a hold of the weapon that they used for this attack.

I think it’s important to know all of that before you jump to conclusions that there’s some law we could have passed that could have prevented it. There may be, but shouldn’t we at least know the facts? I think that we can always have that debate but if you’re going to have the debate about this particular incident, you should know the facts of that incident before you run out and prescribe some law you claim could have prevented it.”

Paul Ryan echoed this saying,

Those who rail against government overreach and say the government is too intrusive in our lives certainly have to object to this government action of defining what gender means especially as it results from a political stance and not from what the medical community holds.
