hypocrites at it again

Plain and simple, they think we are stupid, and, frankly, I find it insulting.

First Trump takes actions to reduce or remove the rights of GLBT people while working to give people the right to ignore laws so they can discriminate if they claim a deeply held , but not analyzed for validity, religious belief, and then tweets that we should recognize the positive contributions GLBT people make to the country

Now we have Bishop Thomas Tobin of Providence, Rhode Island tweeting,

“A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June. They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children.”

There was a lot of backlash to this and the use of the appeal to the trope about pedophilia, so the bishop issued a second tweet that attempted to pretend the first tweet did not say what it said.

“The Catholic Church has respect and love for members of the gay community, as do I. Individuals with same-sex attraction are beloved children of God and our brothers and sisters.”

Because nothing says respect and love like claiming a group of people, with few statistics to prove it, are dangerous to children, an ironic statement from a bishop of a church with hundreds of documented instances of its own officials having been found credibly accused and/or found guilty of child molestation while bishops covered up their offenses and moved them from parish to parish where they could continue their offenses.

To become a bishop a person has to be intelligent as he represents the church and its teachings. And, if the church is the determiner of what it takes to be saved and has the obligation to pass that information on to its people, bishops have to be articulate and specific in their choice of words and exact in his pronouncements.

Even Tobin has explained,

“My obligation before God is to lead the faithful entrusted to my care and to teach the faith, clearly and compassionately, even on very difficult and sensitive issues. That is what I have always tried to do – on a variety of issues – and I will continue doing so as contemporary issues arise.”

So it is mere evasion and double speak if to explain away his insult he then claims regret that his tweet

“turned out to be so controversial in our community, and offensive to some, especially in the gay community”,

followed by the usual, It wasn’t what I said, it was what you heard me say evasion

“That certainly was not my intention, but I understand why a good number of individuals have taken offense.”

I called you a pedophile, I’m sorry you took offense to that.

Yeah, we took offense because you said offensive things about us especially when research, like that done by the University of California Davis has concluded,

“The empirical research does not show that gay or bisexual men are any more likely than heterosexual men to molest children.”

Perhaps he should really show his commitment to the safety of children by tweeting,

“A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend any church related events held throughout the year. They are especially harmful for children.”

Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas defended Tobin on Twitter,

“Thanks for speaking up Bishop Tobin….let us be mighty loving messengers of truth and light in Jesus Christ.”

But, let’s not forget an earlier tweet in which he stated,

“Today, I join with the other bishops of Texas in releasing the names of clergy (priests and deacons) in our dioceses who are subject to credible allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.”

A  hypocrite is someone who claims to know and follow certain beliefs but behaves in a way that counteracts those beliefs.

Although He said nothing about Gay people, Jesus, the guy these bishop claim they represent on earth, had things to say on hypocrisy.

Matthew 23:27-28: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

Luke 20:46-47: Beware of the reachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplace and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour wiow’s house and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished more severely.

1 John 4:20: Whoever claims to love God yet hates his brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

Luke 6:46: Why do you call me “Lord, Lord”, and do not do what I say?

Mark 7:6: Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me’”.

Matthew 6:1: Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. Of you do, you will have no reward from your father in heaven.

Luke 6:37-42: Do not judge, an yo will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you.

Luke 6:42: How can you say, “Brother, let me take the speck out of you eye”, when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from you brother’s eye.

So I suggest, keep your children safe and let them enjoy themselves.

Keep them away from church and let them enjoy a Pride Parade and festival.
