climate strike today

Today, September20, 2019, is the day for the inter-generational day of striking that will launch an entire week of climate action across the world.

Like the March for Our Lives that called attention to the need for something to be done about guns and the school shootings that have become too routine, this, too, has been organized by the youth who will have to deal with the effects of those in charge doing nothing.

As their website states,

“We, as a global society, are at a crossroads. We have a decision to make. Are we going to choose money or power or are we going to choose the future? The September 20 strike is an invitation to everyone to choose us. Choose the kids, choose humanity, choose the future.”

But, this is not a onetime thing, although it woud be nice if that is all it takes, but, hopefully, if necessary, the beginning of continuous actions until something gets done. Climate change affects everyone, including those who just won’t accept it is real, but none more than the young whose future will be lived with it.

The Climate strike is three days before the UN Climate Summit and Young people and adults are demanding transformative action to address the climate crisis.

The young organizers demand:

  • transforming our economy to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2030. phasing out all fossil fuel extraction through a just and equitable transition that will create millions of good jobs.
