During Senate business on Wednesday, it seemed that, regardless what the discussion was actually about, one after another, members of the GOP condemned Joe Biden for the price of gas and how his actions are forcing the United States to become energy dependent.

Anytime the price of gas went up during the Bush years and then those of Trump, the GOP was quick to point out that the price of gas is not controlled by the president, but due to things over which he has no control.

Biden, somehow, does.

They also claimed that Biden was making us energy dependent pretending for their purposes that fossil fuels is the only measure of energy status. This was in their attempt to promote the XL Pipeline while ignoring the existent of those types of energy, the sun and wind, that are renewable.

Energy-independence is a fiction to promote Trump because the reality was that during his tenure in office, he continued to import oil from foreign countries, most notably Mexico and Venezuela which are foreign countries, something the GOP doesn’t seem to grasp that Canada is.

As far as the gush of domestic Canadian oil the United States will get about 1/3 off what passes though the country from Canada will get exported since Gulf Coast refineries export about two-thirds of their products.

Meanwhile, rather than keep all oil refined in the States in the States, the GOP does not want to interfere with the fee market system and the profits that exportation will bring to the oil companies, so exporting fuel should be allowed to continue.

My idea is to reduce the federal fossil fuel subsidies by the amount that the companies get from exports.

Better, end the subsidies and begin having those companies pay corporate taxes while shifting some subsidies to alternative fuel production.
