This is ‘Murka, after all

Blaise Ingoglia, senator  in the freest state in the Union, Florida, is tired of having to fight against all the un-American wokeness of his state’s Democratic Party and is pushing a bill to ban the existence of any political party that once included slavery in its platform, regardless how long ago, from running in the state.

Historically that would have been the Democrats from over 100 years ago, and much had changed.

According to the Senator,

“For years now, leftist activists have been trying to ‘cancel’ people and companies for things they have said or done in the past. This includes the removal of statues and memorials and the renaming of buildings. Using this standard, it would be hypocritical not to cancel the Democratic Party itself for the same reason.”

It may be true that in the name of State’s Rights the Democratic Party supported slavery in its platforms from 1844-1864, but as time went on with the Democratic Party embracing progressive policies and civil rights, and the Republican Party, once the party of abolition and progressive policies, now supporting conservative values and policies, things are not as they were pre-Appomatax.

During the Civil War, Southern Democrats may have favored slavery in all territories while Northern Democrats argued that a state’s standing as free or not should go to a popular vote which was a softening of the position, and 100 years later a Southern Democrat, Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act.

The party has learned, has changed its stance, and took active steps to make amends.

If passed, the law would take effect on July 1.

I suppose that any Democrat in Florida who wants to stay in the Democratic Party can either move to a blue state or wait out the five year hold period before being able to vote in a red state.
