Stick to the facts

On Thursday I was in my car driving toward Providence, Rhode Island, and I was in one of those zones where radio stations begin to fade in and out. I began switching stations and found myself being yelled at by Rush Limbaugh.

He was talking about the train crash in Philadelphia, and made one of his trademark leaps from fact into fiction.

He quoted the heading of an article in the New York Times that stated that one day after the tragic train crash, congress had cut funding to Amtrak. Although the article made no cause and effect link, as it merely presented the irony of the timing, Rush complained that obviously the New York Times was claiming that the GOP caused the accident, and that was just wrong but typical of the main stream, drive-by media.

He ignored what he had read, and misrepresented the article to his listeners.

So far, the official word on the accident was that the accident could have been prevented if the train and track had been equipped with a safety system called Positive Train Control.

The only connection between the accident and the GOP, and it was not one of cause and effect as far as the day after the accident vote is concerned, was that when Representative Steve Israel of New York complained that past underfunding of Amtrak and infrastructure meant “Last night we failed them. We failed to invest in their safety”, Representative Mike Simpson, a Republican, countered that it was horribly offensive to the American people for Steve Israel to have suggested that seven people would still be alive if Positive Train Control had been in place.

As he said, “You have no idea, no idea what caused the accident, and to use that as a means of supporting the last amendment ( it dealt with funding for safety)… don’t use this tragedy in that way, it was beneath you.”

He considered the connection between the tragedy and the need to vote for funds to install the Positive Train Control just a cheap ploy to spend taxpayers’ hard-earned money.

Politicizing the accident is wrong according to the GOP and its mouthpieces.

Fox’s Megyn Kelly objected that it was a “predictable but no less despicable rush to turn this crash into a political talking point.”

In spite of the general opinion of even the National Transportation Safety Board that since this was a curve long known to be dangerous and could have benefited from the PTC system, Ms Kelly demanded to know, “Who failed them?… How exactly did the infrastructure fail?”

Anyone who now talks about the need to improve the country’s infrastructure and dares to mention this accident as evidence of that has been put on notice that they are just being political and liberal.

The PTC system was mandated by Congress seven year ago, but that same group has consistently delayed implementation. And then the day after the crash, the house voted against its implementation yet again.

Mere coincidence.

But, there is one cause of the crash being promoted that is acceptably not political.

Chuck C. Johnson of the website GotNews has discovered that the Amtrak engineer, Brandon Bostian, is a “gay activist who previously worked at Target as a cashier”.

He reveal that:

“Bostian was also involved in a Gay marriage protest in 2012, according to this Midtown Gazette story. Brandon Bostian, a recent transplant to New York, attended the event. Bostian was active in the Proposition 8 fight, which defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman, in San Francisco. While he is still interested in working for marriage equality, Bostian admitted that he is less enthusiastic this time around. ‘It’s kind of insulting to have to beg people for my right to marry,’ he said. ‘I feel like we shouldn’t even have to have this fight’ .”

And a Fox contributor and head of The American Patriarchy Association, Sandy Rios, expressed her fear that Bostian lost control of the train because he was “going through some confusion that has to do with the very core of who they (the Gays) are.”

So, there it is.

It was not a crumbling infrastructure that congress has repeatedly ignored, in spite of their own mandate as far as trains are concerned, it was, once again, the Gays.

One is left to wonder if in all those other catastrophes and fatal accidents in which Gay people had no involvement, it was the person’s heterosexuality that caused it.

And, considering that in Islam Homosexuality is a pretty bad thing which would allow one to assume all AlQeida and ISIS members are heterosexual, could it be that terrorism is caused by heterosexuals “going through some confusion that has to do with the very core of who they are”?

Floods, Tornadoes, the California drought, earthquakes, hurricanes, huge home destroying fires, and now a train crash are all God’s expressions of His wrath about the Gays.

I might be naive, but with all His omniscience and super powers, you would think that rather than kill and maim all kinds of innocent people while leaving the target relatively untouched to show He hates the Gays, in this case God would have waited until the guy was by himself, perhaps walking across the street and have him whacked.

But, at least we can rest knowing that blaming the gays is not politicizing the accident.
