Think of all those public figures we are familiar with, and whose public persona we know all too well, but whose private life we actually know nothing about. We assume that the person we know is who they really are, but their real life and persona out of the public eye is often a great unknown.

We all knew who Pee Wee Herman was, but until Paul Reubens was scooped up in the raid at that Florida adult theater, we had no idea who the man behind the make-up was, and we could have been standing next to him on many occasions having no idea who we were standing next to.

In this vein, I have often Imagined that before she goes on any show to promote her latest books, books whose expressed opinions sell to an avid fan base that loves to have its prejudices supported while in reality she does not believe anything she actually writes as it is often obviously too extreme, Anne Coulter goes to her closet to get her spaghetti strapped almost too tight and too short black cocktail dress, applies her make-up so that under the studio lights she will look almost emaciated, dons her stringy blond wig, and transforms herself from the moderate she really is, to the caricature of a conservative that sells her books to the hungry.

In pushing her latest over the top book, she sat down for an interview with Jorge Ramos of Univision and Fusion TV where she rattled off twisted statistics she certainly cannot believe herself, but will make her book popular with those who, upon reading it will feel better about their prejudices because, well, see, it’s in a book written by what they assume to be a real person who believes it too.
