There has been a lot of discussion and verbal tap dancing this past week about the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado, most of it attempting to justify or excuse the deaths of three innocent people because the shooter had an agenda based on the claim that Planned Parenthood sold body parts for profit.

The claims that the deaths were justified because Planned Parenthood is an “abortion mill” ignore the reality that the three people killed were not employees of Planned Parenthood.

So where is the basis for that justification?

There is also the defense of the shooter who is “unfairly” being labeled a terrorist simply because he did what earns other people that label.

And, rather than deal with the actual issue, people have resorted to using the incident to discuss abortion, which, whether agreed with or not, is legal in this country while shooting people and killing them is not, with some claiming that Planned Parenthood is actually to blame because, well, their mere existence.

Extreme political rhetoric led to death, and those responsible for the rhetoric are desperately attempting to deflect their responsibility.

But the biggest distraction is that the event has given some the assumed self-righteous position as the purveyors of morality.

Abortion makes God cry, according to some, even though, unlike murder that He included in His Ten Commandments, He not only never spoke about abortion, but actually performed them numerous times.

Take this event for instance from the Bible:

Genesis 5
“The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the LORD said, ‘I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.’ 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
So God said to Noah, ‘I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.
I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.
Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.’”

Among those killed were pregnant women and the occupants of their wombs.

If your stance is that a fetus becomes a person upon conception, or are simply pro-life in general, the deaths of these unborn at the hands of God have to be horrifying.

God claimed He destroyed all human life because of mankind’s wickedness, but what wickedness can these unborn be guilty of?

But beside this and the fetuses killed in Sodom, we have these Biblical passages:

Hosea 9:14
14 Give them, LORD—
what will you give them?
Give them wombs that miscarry
and breasts that are dry.

Numbers 5:16-21
Then the LORD said to Moses, 16 “‘The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the LORD. 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the LORD, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”— 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse—“may the LORD cause you to become a curse[b] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell.

Obviously, there are certain circumstances under which God not only condones abortion, but directs it be done, i.e, if the child is conceived out of wedlock, which could include rape, or is in the womb of your enemy.

And, along with abortion, God seems to either direct or at least condone mass killings.

In the Bible, there are 158 instances where God was responsible for mass killings that included pregnant women for a total of 2,821,364 people, a number specifically mentioned in the Bible. But that could increase if you speculate how many were killed in the flood and Sodom which was not specified since the numbers related to those events are merely stated as “all”, the number of first born killed in Egypt before the Exodus, and the Egyptians who died due to the various plagues.

It also doesn’t include fetuses.

On at least two occasions God commanded the mass killings:

The Canaanites under Moses and Joshua in Numbers 21:2-3, Deuteronomy 20:17, and Joshua 6:17, 21.

The Amalekites by Saul in 1 Samuel 15

Ironically in Numbers 16 God killed 14,700 people for complaining about God’s killings.

So, if God has condoned, commanded, and performed mass killings and the killing of the unborn, whether you consider them fetuses or persons, how can people justify acts of terrorism at places like Planned Parenthood in the name of God?

There are those who commit acts of mass murder and terrorism in the name of this killing obsessed God, and those who, after the fact, offer and ask others to pray to this same God.

And of those two groups, the latter is composed of those who actively refuse to do what is necessary to prevent the killings whose seriousness they attempt to excuse themselves of by saying they are praying.
