I found this definition of Transgender:

Transgender people experience a mismatch between their gender identity or gender expression and their assigned sex. Transgender is also an umbrella term because, in addition to including trans men and trans women whose binary gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex, it may include genderqueer people (whose identities are not exclusively masculine or feminine, but may, for example, be bigender, pangender, genderfluid, or agender).
Many transgender people experience a period of identity development. The degree to which individuals feel genuine, authentic, and comfortable within their external appearance and accept their genuine identity is referred to as transgender congruence. Being transgender is independent of sexual orientation; transgender people may identify as heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, asexual, etc., or may consider conventional sexual orientation labels inadequate or inapplicable.
One effort to quantify the population gave a “rough estimate” that 0.3 percent of adults in the US (1-in-300) are transgender, overlapping to an unknown degree with the estimated 3.5 percent of US adults (1-in-30) who identify as Fay, Lesbian, and Bisexual.

That’s a lot of information, and it takes time to read it and to consider it.

How inconvenient is that?

It’s easier to just make assumptions believing you know more about what is in someone’s psyche than they do, and nothing goes beyond that which you can see, except, I guess, God, and then saying what you think about transgender people without having to take the time to learn the facts about them or even from them

Being free from political correctness means you can say whatever you want about any person, place, or thing without needing to have it factual, with the bad people being those who correct you or ask you not to talk about people in a demeaning way.

It also allows people in positions of authority to say what they think, but not necessarily what they could learn if they took the time, and then having people accept it solely based on their position.

Why actually take the time to analyze what was said when just accepting what you are told or decided on your own is so much easier?

And when you speak about it, you do not have to be burdened by common human decency or even basic decorum.

You can be as ugly as you want to make your point.

During a “legislative coffee” in South Dakota where several lawmakers answered questions about various issues, Republican State Representatives Jim Stalzer, Mark Willadsen, Steven Haugaard, and Arch Beal, along with Republican State Senator David Omdahl, explained their support of HB 1008 that bans transgender students from using school bathrooms that match their real gender as opposed that defined solely on the visible.

The bill had passed the House 58-10.

Their various biases and misunderstandings about the transgender community were on full display.

Stalzer pushed the idea that “people with male anatomy going into female showers and locker rooms” is somehow a threat to other women. He claimed that transgender women are basically all male exhibitionists.

It is already a crime for a male to expose themselves in front of females, and they can call it she, he, whatever, but as long as they have male anatomy, they’re in violation of that law if nothing else.”

He obviously does not understand what exposing oneself is under the law.

Willadsen explained, “If you’re a boy, you go in the boys’ room; if you’re a girl, you go in the girls’ room.” He referred to a Transgender person as “one of the unfortunate people who don’t really know,” and so should use a separate restroom.

He ignores that unlike him, there are transgender kids who do really know who they are.

Omdahl said, “I’m sorry if you’re so twisted you don’t know who you are — a lot of people are — and I’m telling you right now, it’s about protecting the kids. They’re treating the wrong part of the anatomy; they ought to be treating it up here,” gesturing to his head.

He shares Willadsen’s ignorance about Transgender kids.

Haugaard felt that objecting to the bill was due to “political correctness”, and, showing a complete lack of reality, claimed that the suicide rate is “dramatically higher” among transgender people “because of the internal confusion and angst that exists.”

He simply ignored the research that shows that the high suicide rate exists because of anti-transgender stigma and discrimination, not from just being transgender.

And, again ignoring research and medical history Haugaard claimed, “The fact is: it’s just a choice of lifestyle, and I can expect there will be lots of pushback on that line, but that’s a fact.”
Obviously a “Haugaard fact.

According to Republican State Senator Ernie Otten, the bill is about modesty, not targeting transgender kids. “How would you feel walking into any sort of facility that you want in the state of South Dakota and you had to use the bathroom and there is a guy in there?”

Obviously, his ignorance of the topic was plain as he thinks that transgender women were “guys.”

These uninformed men clearly believe that people change their gender identity the same way they change the style of clothes they wear.

They have no idea that being Transgender, even among the kids they claim they are protecting, goes far deeper than merely the outward appearance.

But learning that takes time and work.
