Enough, Caitlyn, enough

IMAG0158

At the risk of being too blunt, “Caitlyn, sit down and shut up”.

Having a number of friends who are Transgender I applauded Jenner’s decision to become her true self. I appreciated the struggle she went through to decide this. I appreciated her fear of public reaction and how this would affect her whole history.

But what I don’t appreciate is her assumption that because she is a celebrity her decision and her acting on it make her a spokesperson for a community she does not seem to have had all that much contact with or knowledge of.

She became a self appointed spokesperson with a pulpit of celebrity, and assumed whatever she thought was what the Transgender person without all her fame, money, famous friends, and privileged life thought.

Whereas she can stay within a cocoon of  privilege, most Transgender people have to deal with a threatening world.

She burst into the GLBT Community and assumed it was what she thought it was and its history was the one she assumed it was.

Why else would she endorse Trump claiming he would be the GLBT Community’s best friend.

She claims,

“Everybody looks at the Democrats as being better with these issues. But Trump seems to be very much for women. He seems very much behind the LGBT community because of what happened in North Carolina with the bathroom issue. He backed the LGBT community.”

This claim is based on Trump’s originally saying,

“North Carolina did something that was very strong, and they are paying a big price and there’s a lot of problems. One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying ‘leave it the way it is. There have been very few problems.’ North Carolina, what they are going through with all of the business that’s leaving and the strife– and that’s on both sides. You leave it the way it is. There have been very few complaints they way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate, there has been so little trouble, and the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife and the economic punishment they’re taking.”

But within 24 hours he had switched that to,

“I love North Carolina, and they have a law, and it’s a law that, you know, unfortunately is causing them some problems. I think that local communities and states should make the decisions. And I feel very strongly about that. The federal government should not be involved.”

Apparently, Jenner was off somewhere doing celebrity things and missed it.

Something else she apparently missed.

“Trump has vowed time and again to oppose LGBTQ equality and roll back our progress,” reads a statement released by the Human Rights Campaign. “His policy positions are extreme and dangerous — and he has attempted to obfuscate his views because he knows they are out of step with the vast majority of voters who’ll go to the polls in November.”

When asked about continuing Obama’s tradition of issuing an GLBT Pride proclamation in the month of June, Trump’s strong supportive answer was,

“I would look into it. And I feel so badly what happened [in Orlando]. And we have to do something about it.”

His support of the victims of the Orlando Pulse shooting and their friends and relatives was,

“Look, we’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he’s got something else in mind  the something else in mind — you know, people can’t believe it. People cannot, they cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can’t even mention the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’ There’s something going on. It’s inconceivable. There’s something going on.”

He immediately politicized the shooting.

Of course this was along with his boastfully claiming he had been right that there would be some sort of future shooting, and then thanking the GLBT Community for it support.

So I am saying, “STOP”.

Stop trying to give yourself a title and role while at the same time misrepresenting  those you claim to speak for.

STOP.

Learn more about our community than you have from the ivory tower of celebrity and the Kardashian world of fantasies.

Go to a bar, not some fancy, chic Hollywood watering hole, but one where real Transgender people hang out, and lose that easily identifiable glam. Go un-dolled up so the paparazzi doesn’t know who you are when you get out of the car.

Go like all the other patrons do, and not like you have just arrived at a photo-shoot.

Wear plain clothes and look normal, and don’t walk in with a giant sign saying that Caitlyn is here, and hang out with normal people.

Listen to their lives. See how your Waterford crystal goblet world measures up to their jelly jar drinking glasses reality.

Just because a person finally decides to jump in the pool, it does not make them a swimming instructor.

There is much to learn first, and you, obviously have much to learn.

Until then, just be quiet and stop trying to convince the media and the general population you represent all Transgender people.

You don’t.

You haven’t a clue.

Stop speaking for the GLBT Community. You are undoing a lot of what has been accomplished with real work and hurt.

The only person you represent is Caitlyn Jenner.

Act accordingly.
