They’re back playing their games.

Their vacation is over, so the GOP in the senate has returned to play their usual tricks.

Instead of passing bills that are beneficial to the American people, they are once again showing that they will stick on some unrelated additions to a good bill to either have their agenda piggy-backed on to it, or have the bill killed so they can claim that the Democrats are the bad guys,

Case in point:

Zika, the mosquito borne virus that could affect the development of unborn children, that which the right to life people are extremely protective of, needs to be dealt with, and to that end the House of Representatives passed a bill and it went over to the senate.

The issue is protecting people against the virus, especially the unborn, so what problem could the GOP in the senate have agaistt it?

Although only dealing with Zika, the bill, however, did not fund Zika prevention to the level that the agencies fighting the disease say they require. the Centers for Disease Control and National Institutes of Health  needs $1.9 billion, and Senate Democrats had already agreed to $1.1 billion because Republicans refused the administration’s request for the full amount.

This goes against the past claim that the Democrats will not work with the Republicans.

They clearly did in this case

But then the GOP added such unrelated items as preventing any of the funds from the Zika bill going to Planned Parenthood even though they could help with controlling the virus’s spread , allowing the Confederate flag to be flown in veterans’ cemeteries, making cuts to Obamacare, and gutting rules protecting our water supply, none of which has anything to do with Zika, and probably would not pass if they had to stand alone.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid made what was going on clear,

“Republicans were more interested in attacking Planned Parenthood and flying the Confederate flag. Can’t make that stuff up—that’s really the truth—than protecting women and babies from this awful virus.”

The Zika bill failed because personal agendas took precedence over the welfare of the American people, as did the plan of the GOP to make it look like the Democrats are the ones who turned their backs.

If a clean bill had been propose, the American people would be better off.
