Little Donnie swings again

??????????????

Before the first missle had landed in Syria on Thursday, the Trumpettes were proclaiming Trump was a man of action while Obama had done nothing. It took Trump and his lack of a plan as to what to do starting tomorrow to show what tough was. He would never have let Syria get away with what it had in the past.

They forget, of course, that a president cannot unilaterally start a war, and when Congress did not back an action he wanted, being a Constitutional president, Obama had to drop it and try something else.

When Assad had gassed his people in 2012 and Obama wanted to do something, Trump had tweeted,

“The only reason President Obama wants to attack Syria is to save face over his very dumb RED LINE statement. Do NOT attack Syria, fix U.S.A.”

“Obama wants to unilaterally put a no-fly zone in Syria to protect Al Qaeda Islamists. Syria is NOT our problem.”

“President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your “powder” for another (and more important) day!”

“How bad has our “leader” made us look on Syria. Stay out of Syria, we don’t have the leadership to win wars or even strategize.”

In 2015 he tweeted,

“You have Russia that’s now there. Russia’s on the side of Assad, and Russia wants to get rid of ISIS as much as we do, if not more, because they don’t want them coming into Russia. Let Syria and ISIS fight. Why do we care?”

In 2016,

United States had “bigger problems than Assad. I would have stayed out of Syria and wouldn’t have fought so much for Assad, against Assad.”

“I think going in was a terrible, terrible mistake. Syria, we have to solve that problem because we are going to just keep fighting, fighting forever. I have a different view on Syria than everybody else.”

“Give me a break. I had to listen to Lindsey Graham talk about, you know, attacking Syria and attacking, you know, and it’s like you’re now attacking Russia, you’re attacking Iran, you’re attacking. And what are we getting? We’re getting — and what are we getting?”

But his time on 04/05/17 it was,

““These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the last administration’s weakness and irresolution. President Obama said in 2012 that he would establish a ‘red line’ against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing. The United States stands with our allies across the globe to condemn this intolerable attack.”

What did Obama do?

He did not carry out airstrikes but organized with Russia to move Syria’s declared arsenal of chemical weapons out of the country to be destroyed.

As if the support Obama’s approach Rex Tillerson said just a few days ago,

“While we continue to monitor the terrible situation, it is clear that this is how Bashar al-Assad operates: with brutal, unabashed barbarism. We call upon Russia and Iran, yet again, to exercise their influence over the Syrian regime and to guarantee that this sort of horrific attack never happens again.”

Nikki Haley told reporters,

“You pick and choose your battles … And when we’re looking at this, it’s about changing up priorities, and our priority is no longer to sit and focus on getting Assad out.”

Then the gas fell. Why would Assad fear reprisal with the statements by the Secretary of State and the Ambassador to the U.N.

And, aren’t we glad we trusted Russia like Tillerson said we should.

So “stay out” becomes we should have “gone in”. “Let Russia handle it like they said they would” stays “Let Russia handle it like they said they would”.

It would also appear that the administration policy of letting Assad stay got to John McCain who said,

“The recent statements by US officials suggesting otherwise only serve to legitimize the actions of this war criminal in Damascus.”

Like dropping his campaign pledges to his supporters, even in this Trump changes position and hopes no one notices that because he just has to mention Obama, and his followers will accept whatever he says negative about him.

I guess he showed China’s president how tough he can be.
