He said he opposed hateful foreign ideologies

??????????????

In order to court the GLBT vote during the election campaign, as with every group he was courting, Donald Trump said things that he thought would win the Community over to him.

So while ignoring any Civil Right gains under Obama, and any for which Hillary may have had some co-responsibility , he kept saying that Hillary was friends with those countries that threw Gay men from the tops of buildings.

His reaction to the shooting at the Pulse night club became his example of the hatred toward Gays by Muslins that he would prevent if the GLBT people voted for him.

But he was carefully selective, as he could not threaten the Evangelical vote. So in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention his words were very constricted. While he wanted to woo one group he did not want to lose another.

“It’s time. I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me.”

And more to the point, this,

“Only weeks ago, in Orlando, Florida, 49 wonderful Americans were savagely murdered by an Islamic terrorist. This time, the terrorist targeted our LGBT community. As your President, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBT citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology.”

His words need to be noted. He said the protections would be from “FOREIGN IDEOLOGIES”, he never mentioned domestic ones. After all, he had already let the religious right include discrimination in the Republican Party Platform; he chose Mike Pence as his running mate, a man whose anti-Gay record is horrendous; promised to allow churches and individuals to discriminate against GLBT people; and put someone on the Supreme Court who would be just like the Anti-Gay Antonin Scallia.

In his fist hundred days he has removed GLBT people from the 2020 census, something that could affect the proposing of and application of laws that impact the GLBT Community; proposed an almost half billion dollar cut in AIDS research, prevention, education, and treatment from the next budget; signed an Executive order removing employment protection from discrimination by federal contractors; got an anti-Gay justice on the bench; and appointed a virulently anti-Gay person to head the Health and Human Service office of Civil Rights, a man who has written that Transgender people have no right to healthcare.

And even when it comes to those foreign ideologies, he misrepresented reality in his hopes that the GLBT Community might just accept his promise without checking facts, and some did, but most took a closer look and found that as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared on Human Rights Day in 2011 that “gay rights are human rights”.

At the World Congress of Families summit in Salt Lake City, the U.S. joined other equality-supporting countries and voted to appoint an independent expert at the United Nations who would investigate violence and discrimination against people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity, which got African antigay activists to urge Americans help end U.S. advocacy for gay rights globally by not electing Clinton.

Meanwhile, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council hosted Trump and Pence at the recent Values Voter Summit where he defended Uganda’s notorious “Kill the Gays” bill as an effort to “uphold moral conduct.”

Another ally, Gary Bauer, who, while working in the Reagan White House in 1987, fought to prevent the appointment of a “known homosexual” to the nation’s first AIDS commission because that would “give homosexuality a stamp of approval”, has said that Trump would be conservative Christians’ last chance to have a president who will promote the religious right’s  agenda. Did I mention the proposed budget cuts dealing with AIDS?

And, the foreign ideologies are actually limited to Islam because Vladimir Putin instituted antigay policies and Trump has said nothing.

Novaya Gazeta, a Russian newspaper, has reported that Chechen authorities are arresting and killing gay men. The reason for the arrests is “their nontraditional sexual orientation, or suspicion of such”, and has resulted in 100 gay men being detained.

The only explanation for this news being false is what was offered by the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov is that

“You cannot arrest or repress people who just don’t exist in the republic. If such people existed in Chechnya, law enforcement would not have to worry about them, as their own relatives would have sent them to where they could never return. ”

A Moscow-based gay rights group had applied for permits to stage gay pride parades in four North Caucasus regions which includes Chechnya, but had not applied in Chechnya.

The Northern Caucus regions of Russia are traditionally Muslim, and Putin empowered leaders there to press agendas to co-opt an Islamist underground.

According to Novaya Gazeta,

“In Chechnya, the command was given for a ‘prophylactic sweep’ and it went as far as real murders.”

The method used was to make contact with closeted men on the internet, and then arresting them. The arrestees were n “flaunting their life-style” as the antiquated phrase was in the United States to justify arrests in the past, and if they had not been approached, would have remained in the shadows.

Again from Novaya Gazeta,

“Of course, none of these people in any way demonstrated their sexual orientation publicly — in the Caucasus, this is equal to a death sentence.”

President Trump knows about this, and Russia’s indifference to events should strike him as being just as hateful as the countries he spoke about when courting the GLBT vote. The lawless detentions, arrests, torture, and murders are unacceptable, and President should not remain silent.

He condemned Hillary for her alleged tacit acceptance of the torture and murder of GLBT people in Muslim countries.  He needs to make it clear that as he claimed it was wrong for Hillary, he will speak out against it himself, or he is more like the image of Hillary that he promoted.

He needs to condemn this hateful foreign ideology that has been established in Russia.
