If he made a brash and irrational statement or promise that later was seen as outrageous even by his base, he could excuse it as the press lying, and those people would believe it.
Even if the press printed a tweet from Donald Trump, or broadcasts a video in which he makes some statement, he immediately calls it fake news when it becomes clear from the public’s reaction that it was another bad idea or wild narcissistic statement.
Besides claiming,
