I have seen this before

??????????????

As the insurance ad says,

“We know a few things because we’ve seen a few things.”

Since I had been advocating for GLBT students in my last school district for two or three years before transferring from the middle school to the high school, it seemed a little odd that the principal of the high school, as he was later to explain to the area union representative at a meeting where I was in attendance, had come to the conclusion that I was only involved in such advocacy to make him look bad.

To deal with this and to somehow make me look weak and he strong, he decide on a strategy that he thought would be effective in protecting his reputation while establishing that I was involved in a non-issue and was merely being radical for personal gain.

He had a vice principal he had worked with at another school transferred to the his present school. She was a Lesbian to whom he had made the promise that when he retired he would do what he could to get her appointed as his replacement, and she played the game that she thought would guarantee this.

He appointed her head of all things Gay, and as she declared to me in front of a witness that there were no Gay kids in high school, this did not bode well.

It was clear he intended this vice-principal to counter the Gay man, and by denying any progress to the benefit of Gay students because they were unnecessary, I would look like a radical inventing a problem, while he like a person supporting what was correct in spite of my radical agenda, and the vice-principal would be rewarded with a promotion and a bigger paycheck.

As the head of all things Gay, a position she should have turned down as there were no Gay kids in high school, anything I wanted to do that would supply students both Gay and straight with correct and self affirming information on GLBT people was denied, and when some Gay and Lesbian students expressed a desire for the same, she controlled what information they got.

She allowed interested students to plan a Gay History Month display, but refused to supply them with any information, and as the district’s computer filtering program blocked anything with the word “Gay” in it, this forced them to get it from off campus sources. When they submitted the components of their display, many listing famous Gay and Lesbian people, the vice-principal removed the words “Gay” and “Lesbian” from the final display so the “Famous Lesbians”, a title chosen for one section by the student who compiled the list, was replaced with “Famous Women”.

Although we had a bulletin board upon which was to be posted notifications of off campus events that would be of interest to students, and a she was also in charge of that, information of interest to GLBT students was not allowed.

She told me that I could not have a Gay History Month display in my classroom, although permission was not denied for Black History, Hispanic Heritage, or Asian Heritage months.

At the direction of the principal she chose two Gay students from among, apparently, the ones who did not exist, and formed a Gay Straight Alliance, thereby violating the procedures of the Equal Access Act for forming extra-curriculum clubs and jeopardizing its very existence if an anti-GLBT person filed an objection; held the meetings one half hour after students left for the day minimizing participation; and in another violation of the Equal Access Act wrote a memo telling teachers, and me specifically, that only students could attend.

The club was not included in any publications where clubs were mentioned, and it did not exist according to clubs listed in the yearbook. Rather than allowing the student to write the club’s constitution and by-laws, in another violation of the EAA, the vice-principal wrote both documents with no student input, told the students they had to sign it if they wanted the GSA, and then supposedly filed both with the student council who kept such information in a file cabinet. However, when a request was made a few months later to retrieve them for review, they were not in the file cabinet, and no one could recall their ever having been submitted

She forbade that the club members should have anything to do with the Young Gay and Lesbian Alliance that met at the the GLBT Community Center, and discouraged their participation in the GLBT Prom.

She was working very hard to make sure she would get the principal’s recommendation for his job to the detriment of the GLBT students and any progress to have them protected in district’s policies on bullying, harassment, and nondiscrimination.

And when it became obvious that the new superintendent intended to bring his own people into the district with one of them getting the principal’s job, all that obstruction came to nothing.

Later, when, for reasons I cannot fathom beyond her grasp of reality was not that strong, she confided in me that she was so angry at this development, and knowing that it would drive the new guy crazy, she totally reversed herself and began allowing that which she had obstructed, and, to make it worse, actually contacted GLBT national publications and organizations, who assumed she was not lying, and informed them that while no one else had been able to do anything for the GLBT students, she had single handedly accomplished a number of things, those things she had previously obstructed, and explained that where others had failed, only she was able to succeed.

This impressed the national organizations and publications that had turned their backs previously when their help was sought, but the local community knew the reality and was not pleased.

Basically, she had simply stopped obstructing so progress could be made, and then took credit for the work of others.

An aside, later, when she should have taken a strong stand on Student and Parent Handbook language if she truly was the influence she claimed to be, she did not stand up and demand the appropriate protective language that should be included. This meant that it had to be done by others, and at a cost of a career.

Why do I mention this?

I mention it because I understand what was done to Obama when it came to Syria by those who obstructed him, to what they hoped was their advantage, who have now done a complete 180 when the President and both houses of congress became Republican and are now taking credit for the things that could have been accomplished without their obstruction.

Trump bombed Syria, and the conservative world went nuts praising him for being a man of action who addressed the gassing of Syrians with a decisiveness not displayed by Obama. Trump was a man of action; Obama was not.

EXCEPT:

In response to Syria’s use of chemical weapons back in 2012, President Obama said,

“I have, at this point, not ordered military engagement in the situation.  But the point that you made about chemical and biological weapons is critical.  That’s an issue that doesn’t just concern Syria; it concerns our close allies in the region, including Israel.  It concerns us.  We cannot have a situation where chemical or biological weapons are falling into the hands of the wrong people.

“We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground, that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized.  That would change my calculus.  That would change my equation.

I’m saying is we’re monitoring that situation very carefully.  We have put together a range of contingency plans.  We have communicated in no uncertain terms with every player in the region that that’s a red line for us and that there would be enormous consequences if we start seeing movement on the chemical weapons front or the use of chemical weapons.  That would change my calculations significantly.”

He did not say he was drawing a red line in the sand. That is one of the misrepresentations of reality that, if repeated often enough without questioning, becomes true, apparently.

When that 2012 attack happened, since no one really knew who had used the Sarin gas, it had to be ascertained who it was before any action could be taken. After an investigation that ignored all the claims that it was Assad Regime, or ISIS, or Anti-Assad Rebels, or the Kurds, or any of the internet or cable news conspiracy theories, it was established that it had, indeed, been Assad.

Things in Syria, when it came to Sarin gas, went quiet after Obama’s words.

When on August 21st of 2013, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used deadly Sarin nerve gas in Ghouta, Syria taking 1,729 lives, with over 3,600 people wounded and unknown long-term causalities, Conservatives insisted that Obama not act in Syria without Congressional approval, as did many Democrats and Republicans. Among all those “advisors” was Donald J Trump. Obama asked for the approval, finally getting it on September 6, 2013.

Even with that approval, Obama listened to the American people and who overwhelmingly objected to any military involvement in Syria. We were already militarily involved in arenas all over the map, especially the map of the Middle East.

Through diplomacy, Assad agreed to allow his chemical weapons stockpiles to be destroyed as a part of a deal with the United States and Russia.

No bombs were dropped and no people died to have it happen, but instead, without firing a shot, chemical weapons left Syria.

Obama played tough, sought Congressional approval, and accomplished the objective.

As much “shock and awe” that was supposed to be produced by this past week’s bombing of an evacuated airfield, the airfield was back in use in one day, and Assad had bombs dropped on the same city whose bombing had cause all the anger just 48 hours before.

So I for one would like to know why what Obama did was weak and impotent when compared to the man of action’s action, and why conservatives just cannot accept the facts of history.

Assad had honored the agreement brokered by Obama for four years, while any results of the actions of Trump were dismissed within 2 days,

They are like that vice principal. The Republican led Congress was responsible for any inaction because it played into what they claimed was an agenda, but now claim they are the ones who acted.

The He-Man is brought to his knees by a clown.

Things are getting serious, so I thought for one entry I would just draw a cartoon because the issue is so absurd.

Item 4071: a picture of a Putin-like person “with eyes and lips made up,” captioned with an implicit anti-gay slur, implying “the supposed nonstandard sexual orientation of the president of the Russian Federation” is now banned in Russia because it might depict Putin as a “Gay Clown”, whatever that is.

It is considered extremist.

Of course, the Russian news outlets cannot show what Item 4071 looks like because to do so would be illegal.

So no one actually knows what is banned.

The opposition to the law led to gay rights protesters getting beaten and arrested.

In 2015, Russian authorities began shutting down websites critical of Putin, and Russia’s Internet censor has long allowed public figures to file court complaints if there is a meme that misrepresents their “personality.”

Since I have no immediate plans to go to Russia, I figured I could draw my version of a Putin as clown picture. I mean, we have no agreements with Russia on this, right?

Little Donnie swings again

??????????????

Before the first missle had landed in Syria on Thursday, the Trumpettes were proclaiming Trump was a man of action while Obama had done nothing. It took Trump and his lack of a plan as to what to do starting tomorrow to show what tough was. He would never have let Syria get away with what it had in the past.

They forget, of course, that a president cannot unilaterally start a war, and when Congress did not back an action he wanted, being a Constitutional president, Obama had to drop it and try something else.

When Assad had gassed his people in 2012 and Obama wanted to do something, Trump had tweeted,

“The only reason President Obama wants to attack Syria is to save face over his very dumb RED LINE statement. Do NOT attack Syria, fix U.S.A.”

“Obama wants to unilaterally put a no-fly zone in Syria to protect Al Qaeda Islamists. Syria is NOT our problem.”

“President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your “powder” for another (and more important) day!”

“How bad has our “leader” made us look on Syria. Stay out of Syria, we don’t have the leadership to win wars or even strategize.”

In 2015 he tweeted,

“You have Russia that’s now there. Russia’s on the side of Assad, and Russia wants to get rid of ISIS as much as we do, if not more, because they don’t want them coming into Russia. Let Syria and ISIS fight. Why do we care?”

In 2016,

United States had “bigger problems than Assad. I would have stayed out of Syria and wouldn’t have fought so much for Assad, against Assad.”

“I think going in was a terrible, terrible mistake. Syria, we have to solve that problem because we are going to just keep fighting, fighting forever. I have a different view on Syria than everybody else.”

“Give me a break. I had to listen to Lindsey Graham talk about, you know, attacking Syria and attacking, you know, and it’s like you’re now attacking Russia, you’re attacking Iran, you’re attacking. And what are we getting? We’re getting — and what are we getting?”

But his time on 04/05/17 it was,

““These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the last administration’s weakness and irresolution. President Obama said in 2012 that he would establish a ‘red line’ against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing. The United States stands with our allies across the globe to condemn this intolerable attack.”

What did Obama do?

He did not carry out airstrikes but organized with Russia to move Syria’s declared arsenal of chemical weapons out of the country to be destroyed.

As if the support Obama’s approach Rex Tillerson said just a few days ago,

“While we continue to monitor the terrible situation, it is clear that this is how Bashar al-Assad operates: with brutal, unabashed barbarism. We call upon Russia and Iran, yet again, to exercise their influence over the Syrian regime and to guarantee that this sort of horrific attack never happens again.”

Nikki Haley told reporters,

“You pick and choose your battles … And when we’re looking at this, it’s about changing up priorities, and our priority is no longer to sit and focus on getting Assad out.”

Then the gas fell. Why would Assad fear reprisal with the statements by the Secretary of State and the Ambassador to the U.N.

And, aren’t we glad we trusted Russia like Tillerson said we should.

So “stay out” becomes we should have “gone in”. “Let Russia handle it like they said they would” stays “Let Russia handle it like they said they would”.

It would also appear that the administration policy of letting Assad stay got to John McCain who said,

“The recent statements by US officials suggesting otherwise only serve to legitimize the actions of this war criminal in Damascus.”

Like dropping his campaign pledges to his supporters, even in this Trump changes position and hopes no one notices that because he just has to mention Obama, and his followers will accept whatever he says negative about him.

I guess he showed China’s president how tough he can be.

No, this is NOT generosity

??????????????

So I am being told that I should be a nicer person and put aside my dislike of Donald Trump and give him credit, in spite of the big picture, when he does something kind and generous.

After all, he is donating $78,333.32, the first installment of his salary, to the National Parks Service.

How generous is that!

But then you have to realize that he has proposed a 1.5 Billion, that’s BILLION, dollar cut to the Department of the Interior’s budget which operates the National Parks Service with about 12% of the department’s total budget.

In contrast to his quiet budget cut proposal, he made the announcement of his donation publicly.

Press Secretary Sean Spicer handed Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke a  $78,333.32 check at a press briefing.

He was upset with me because I did not accept it with all the expressions of gratitude that he had been expecting. After all, he reasoned, he didn’t have to go out of his way to replace the TV he stole.

Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club responded to this “magnanimous” gesture.

“If Donald Trump is actually interested in helping our parks, he should stop trying to slash their budgets to historically low levels. This publicity stunt is a sad consolation prize as Trump tries to stifle America’s best idea.”

Are we as a people supposed to be so stupid as to be so easily bamboozled by a flim-flam man?

Hi supporter will see this a an example of his self-proclaimed greatness. I just hope the word gets to those Texans on the Mexican side of The Wall.

Again, “I just can’t”

??????????????

When the military was planning a training exercise in the Southwestern part of the United States because it has conditions similar to the Middle East, people in Texas sat up and noticed, and then made up the conspiracy theory that Jade Helm was just an excuse to have troops in place when martial law was declared by President Obama.

Although places like Texas were being hit with tornadoes, floods, and wildfires, the people of Texas concocted a conspiracy theory that all those FEMA trailers, which the Texas victims of floods, tornadoes, and wildfires needed for temporary housing, were actually going to be used to form FEMA camps to which people would be sent during martial law, or simply because they opposed some governmental actions, or were protecting their guns.

When someone in Texas noticed that train cars used for shipping automobiles from the Port of Los Angeles to other parts of the country were passing on the nearby railroad tracks, something that was a routine occurrence, and decided that the chains and straps used to secure the autos in place, also a routine practice to keep them from banging around in the enclosed train cars, were actually going to be used to restrain the people being sent to the FEMA camps, Texans paid attention and were vociferous in declaring their fear of and opposition to this.

When they did not like the president at the time for whatever reason, real or imagined, they based that dislike on what they hoped was reality. They were careful to be watchful even when the jaundiced eye was actually cataracts.

Nothing they feared happened, but they had spent a lot of time fretting it.

When Donald Trump made certain claims about other people not Texans, they ate it up.

They were thrilled that congress was going to do away with Obamacare, only to find out that they were actually losing the ACA that they liked. They hadn’t put as much energy into researching something that would actually have an impact on them than they had in bemoaning Jade Helm, FEMA Camps, and train cars.

But now, they are beginning to realize that because of topography, common sense, and the fact that the wall cannot be built on Mexican soil or that would constitute foreign aggression, the plan they wholeheartedly supported, because it was directed toward others, will impact them.

For example, it cannot be built in a river, so it would have to be on the American side of the Rio Grande ceding that waterway and control of its use to Mexico, and a solid wall would prevent annual flood waters from running into it, flooding and harming adjacent farms. Only culverts could prevent this, but they would have to allow large flotsam to pass through or the clogging would create the flooding they are to help avoid, making it easy to potentially modify them to allow holes in the wall large enough for people to pass through.

Also, private land on the United States side of the border will need to be sold to the government at a value far less than could be received by a normal sale or be seized by eminent domain, not only for the actual wall, but a no-man’s land on either side of it. This will end up putting some Texan homes, swaths of property, or whole ranches on the Mexican side of the wall?

In all the time between his announcement to run and Trump’s being elected, no one who would be impacted cared to research what the actual physical wall’s impact would be, and gladly voted against those “others” only to now realize that if you own land at the border, you voted against yourself.

They are now turning to the American people for sympathy for their plight, a plight they could have avoided had they curbed their hatred of others and did some research rather than just cheer and accept.

Hatred of others made the petards from which they could be hoisted strong and plentiful with these people.

And the hits will just keep coming, but the sympathy will not.

How the day went

??????????????

To make sure my message would not be drown out by unnecessary distraction, I consulted the city of New Bedford’s rules on sidewalk usage, and as I was not building a structural obstruction, resurfacing the concrete, piling trash so as to obstruct pedestrian progress, digging a ditch, or building a bonfire, as my footprint would be only the size of a folding chair and I would be neither yelling nor marching, I was going to be lawful and would most likely not have to deal with even the slightest harassment.

I arrived as I had planned, at 11:00 a.m., set up my chair, put the Pride Flag on the end of the bicycle warning flag stick, sat down, unfolded my sign, took out my e-reader, and sat down for I wasn’t sure how long.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as time went on as I had never before just set up a chair on a downtown sidewalk with a sign that supported a particular point of view on a subject on which there would be two opposing sides, and since, in my most recent past, the almost comical conservatism of the majority of the population where I had been living was often expressed in the rudest of terms, I steeled myself for the worst.

Obviously I was going to meet, for better or worse, people I would not otherwise really get to encounter other than that nano-second it takes to pass someone as I am dashing to get somewhere. I was going to potentially converse with anyone who was on that street during my time at my post, so I was going to encounter a cross section of the city’s population, most of whom would not be where I usually would be.

I was going to meet, for a short time, whoever was to pass by me, and I had no control over who those people would be.

A young security guard from the federal building approached me during his perimeter check, and asked what I was doing.

“Reading”, I replied, and I was not lying.

He looked at my sign, and then continued his rounds.

At his next perimeter check he was accompanied by his supervisor which was certainly understandable. I had prepared a defense of my action in my head complete with references to the city sidewalk code in the event I was told to move because of some supposed violation, but the supervisor merely asked what I was doing, accepted my answer, and asked who had drawn the cartoon. He gave what I took to be a neutral nod, and walked away.

It is probably petty of me, but I always put the G first because it began as the Gay Liberation movement, and then, as was only correct, the Gay and Lesbian Liberation Movement. But when Elizabeth Birch, deciding that her organization spoke for all Gay people, even without our permission, and she for her organization, decided to put the L first and notified the press that that was the correct order, I chose to ignore her and stick with history. Besides I saw the ladies before gentlemen concept to be a throwback to the pre-feminist days.

So my sign read, “Mr. Trump, GLBT people will not be erased.”

A passerby looked long at my sign and asked if I would be offended by a comment. When I told her I would not be, she told me I had spelled LGBT wrong.

I got a few beeps and many “thumbs up”. Passers-by made supportive comment s, and a few had some negative things to say about Mr. Trump.

Across the street from my apartment building parking lot there is a small church. I think it is evangelical only because I get that vibe. Anyway their van came down the street, and as it turned the corner it pulled close to the curb and the driver invited me to his church. Obviously a Gay man was being offered salvation. I thanked him, but politely declined. I didn’t get angry because I was doing my thing and he was just doing his. A meeting of causes.

A woman stopped to ask how far the court house was, and I asked which court she was looking for as the Juvenile Court was just across the street while the County Court was more of a drive than a short walk. She wanted Juvenile, and as I pointed out how close she was to it, she looked carefully at my sign, and then made some agreeable comments before pointing out that the topic was a concern to her because in GLBT, she was a T.

Later as she was leaving the court, she gestured to the people she had been walking with to wait as she ran across the street to tell me she had just won custody of her grandchild, and then practically skipped back across the street.

In the four hours I sat there, there was only one negative moment. A woman about my age, a hard looking woman in an old beat up van, slowed to a crawl and got close to the curb so she could yell “faggot!” at me. She sat there for a while staring at me as if she was expecting a response, but I had made up my mind from the moment I decided to do this that I would not engage, nor would I allow anyone to rile me, but would, instead, if someone wanted a discussion, hand them the pamphlet I had printed up and tell them that until they read it, a discussion would be as useless as a troll on the internet.

Not getting what she wanted, she shook her head, gave a rather generic hand gesture, and drove off.

A group of teenagers passed by and politely asked if they could take pictures of my sign.

Most people paused long enough to read the sign if they approached from behind me, and many made a small swerve if they were coming from in front to get a better look, give a thumbs up, make a comment, or just laugh.

As I was preparing to get up and leave, an angry looking woman came running across the street followed by a younger man I assumed to be her son, came right up to the sign, and in a very thick accent told me Trump was a horrible man who wanted to hurt people like her, an immigrant who was now a citizen, but could still be arrested in a sweep.

So the day began with a Transgender woman who had won custody of her grandchild, and ended with a woman, an immigrant, who, in spite of her initial scary appearance, thanked me for publicly making a statement against the man she could not stand.

I folded my sign, took down my pride flag, folded the chair, checked to make sure the area was as clean as when I first arrived, and then walked to my apartment at the other end of the block.

The four hours flew, and because it was as good an experience as it was, but being realistic enough to acknowledge it could be totally different the next time, my set up is sitting by my back door ready for the next non-rainy day, which could be tomorrow or the next.

Ying and Yang

??????????????

I was recently reminded of an event from my past, a chance meeting that had a good ending.

Many years ago I went to New York City armed with a collection of my cartoons and a lot of naivete` because a co-worker’s daughter, who was employed at a publishing house there had suggested that I do that, and even if I met with rejection, I could end up with some helpful advice.

After showing my work to the person with whom she had arranged a meeting, in spite of his liking what he saw, he let me down easy by explaining that at that time they had no projects in the works that would call for my style, but when such came up, I would be on the list of people to be contacted.

It was the usual call us. We’ll call you” dismissal, a verbal version of the rejection letter that praises the work offered followed by “However at this time”, although he did take the time to tell me how I could make inroads into the industry.

I had no need to hurry back home to Boston after the meeting, so I decided to have lunch at a famous deli that is now closed, and walk up fifth Avenue like I owned the city.

Although when I lived in New York I had walked by St. Patrick’s Cathedral many times, I had just never gone in, and decided as I came to it that on that day I would.

I was the ultimate tourist looking at every detail in great detail, even occasionally opening doors to peer behind, something tourists, I’m sure, are expected not to do, and played the innocent whenever I was directed out of some area by a priest who was keeping a nonchalant, but watchful eye on the tourists.

As I rounded the corner at the front pew and started up the center Aisle, I saw someone with whom I had attended college, but hadn’t seen in the intervening years, kneeling, involved in a deep and serious looking bout of prayer.

He happened to look up as I was approaching him, and being glad to run into each other, had me join him, not in prayer, but in a catch up conversation sitting in the pew.

When I finished telling him where I had taught, where I was teaching, and why I was in New York City, he relayed that, although his life had started pretty well after college, his medical condition which had him with only a short time to live, really brought his life and attitude crashing down, and that he had been praying about his decision to just end it since there wasn’t much time anyway and all he had was the waiting.

I wasn’t prepared for this. What do you say when out of the blue you run into an old friend you haven’t seen in years, and he tells you that he is contemplating suicide?

So I told him what I had and have told other people I had and still run into who may be where he was.

If his life had been good for the most part, but he ended it at its lowest point, that would be the best his life would get. And, regardless of anything he had accomplished, any good he had done, whenever people in the future talked about him, they would always come back to how bad his life was and how he had ended it to escape it.

But, if he held on, there was always the possibility that things could turn around. What if he committed suicide in anticipation of his death in six months when, if he had lived, it turned out that he didn’t die as predicted and in the immediate future a cure or more efficient treatment for his condition were to come around and his life could have become something wonderful again? Killing himself was final, and it eliminated all future possibilities.

And, if he lived, and those optimistic possibilities did not materialize? Well, what did he lose? Things certainly didn’t get any worse.

His choice was the definite vs the possible.

He went on to become a lecturer and an author of books dealing with making company work places positive experiences for employees, and in that bettered the lives of countless other people. Then he retired and moved to Florida.

That was a much more positive outcome than having ended it all at his life’s lowest point and eliminating those possibilities.

But life is also perspective, so let me put this into perspective.

A few years later in another city, in another state, and in another time, I was sitting having a drink at a bar observing the man on the barstool next to me, someone I didn’t know at all, moving a collection of about six pills around in front of him. Making incidental bar conversation and hoping to satisfy my curiosity, I asked if he was scheduled to take a pill, and by looking at them was attempting to remember which one he was supposed to take at that time.

He told me he was thinking of killing himself, and was deciding, because of their side effects, which was the best order in which to swallow them, and whether he would do it at the bar and be permanently remembered as the guy who had killed himself in the bar, or do it quietly at home and maintain a little more dignity at the end.

He then related all that had brought him to this spot.

I took a shot and repeated what I had told my friend, and after some quiet reflection, he leaned over the bar and threw the pills into the drain of the empty glass washing sink, and they were flushed away when the bartender filled it.

The perspective came in when the bartender that night, who was also part owner of the establishment, told me the next time I came in that he had heard what I had said to the man at the bar that night, and then told me that although it was a very good thing on my part, that man was the most miserable and annoying son of a bitch who came into that bar and he made everyone’s life hell and ruined everyone’s evening when he came in.

I may have saved his life, but if a vote had been taken the result would have been unanimous, for the sake of everyone else, to let him go.

After that night the bartender and I were the only ones who knew that the misery visited upon the other patrons was because of my good and noble deed, and that I was expected to be the best patron at the bar, or the bartender would let it be known their misery was on my head.

He lasted two years before finally drinking himself to death. His life got no better than that night I had met him, and in that time I got to learn what the bartender had told me. He was, indeed, the most miserable and annoying son of a bitch who came into that bar.

The Ying and the Yang.

The problem that Donald Trump has is that he sees the world only through the spectacles of his own manufacture which blocks out the reality he really needs to see.

We all know that when he was high school age, and hadn’t requested being able to attend military school, he was sent because his parents wanted him out of the house in an environment that would teach him discipline like many that those of us who are around his age knew had also been sent to military school. But as with so much in his life, he rewrote all that in his mind to his advantage. He was not sent away because he was a putz, he was sent to make him an even better person as he was just about the best already.

When people said they wanted a businessman for president, he heard the businessman part and totally ignored the president part that is limited in activity by the Constitution.

He does not realize that he cannot run the country as he has his businesses, but he was supposed to bring what business acumen he has to the Oval Office, and apply what he could of his experience to the presidency as it is established.

It should be obvious, even from his reality show, that he prefers to work with people that do his bidding and support without question what actions he may take, knowing full well that if they want to keep their jobs they have to make his businesses succeed while allowing him to believe that the success was totally based on him, and not their clean up.

We see this process now as those around him explain his outlandish statements by telling us what he actually meant, or simply agreeing with him when he takes credit for work that is not his or denies his own mistakes and moronic statements.

He won the presidency through a process he does not understand, and in his world people are expected merely follow him, and he does not understand, nor can he accept that people are judging his performance. He does not realize that we are his employer and have a right to evaluate our employee. The members of his administration can lose their positions and the perks they bring and play along as all those who have before them learned they had to, and he feels all of us should be in lock step as they are.

He does not know in the real world who is answerable to whom.

That is why after signing his executive orders he shows them around triumphantly to tell he has done what he wants, and why he threw a hissy fit and walked out of the room when the expected, unquestioning adulation was not there.

Instead of just being in awe in his presence and admiring anything he does, this past Friday reporters asked Trump questions about his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and he left the room without signing any executive orders, and when Pence attempted to get him to come back, he sent Pence to get the EOs from his desk and they both left the room.

He signed the two executive orders in another room, and, I suspect, that moment being denied everyone was in his mind their loss and their punishment for disturbing his greatness that was there to be admired and soaked in.

The little boy he is was hurt that he was not everyone’s prince for a moment.

No Erasure

Since it seems with the executive order allowing government contractors to hire or fire GLBT people  merely based on Sexual Orientation, and that they do not have to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, or Title VII of the Civil Rights Act;

Since it would appear that the Civil Rights of GLBT people are of little consequence, especially regarding our Transgender brothers and sisters with the appointment of the anti-GLBT  Roger Severino to lead the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights;

Since it is plain that with the removal of GLBT people from the 2020 census that we as people do not count and without acknowledging our existence, laws important to us as a Community  of citizens will not be considered worth enacting;

And since there are proposed massive cuts in the budget regarding research, prevention and the treatment of HIV/AIDS, a situation whose results many of us are all too familiar with;

I have decided that since I live on one end of my block and there is a federal building at the other, I will be taking a folding chair, a good book, with my mini IPAD which has the Nook and Kindle apps along with some downloaded  books I will have choices, an appropriate sign expressing my displeasure at the attempt to erase me , probably a large version of this cartoon, and, if I can find mine or can buy a new one, a pride flag,  and on Monday, the weather is supposed to be seasonal, will plant myself on the corner in front of that building dor a few hours.

I checked the city ordinances regarding the use of sidewalks, and as I am not intending to dig it up, build some sort of progress impeding construction, resurface it, light a bonfire (yes, that has its own section), or pile a bunch of trash that people can’t easily get around, I seem to not be in danger of violating anything.

The front of the building is at such an angle that the one way traffic will have me facing in an “after-thought” visual position to traffic, so I may have to move to the other corner as I will be better seen by approaching traffic. It will be an aesthetics versus effectiveness choice. Plus the front corner gets sun while the other is usually mostly in the shade.

If anyone local wants to join me for the whole time or just a part, come join me. I have decided to set up my chair around 11:00 a.m., after the second episode of Dr. Who, and stay for a few hours.
