some times choice is favored

Laws are the great equalizer.

Or at least they are supposed to be.

Equal application of law has been historically denied Gay people because of the claim that being Gay is a choice. In contrast, those same people who claim this also claim that they should be allowed to choose which laws they will follow based on their choice of religion.

The Southern Poverty Law Council that tracks hate crimes and those who commit them has designated the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) a hate group because it has repeatedly said that gay people are pedophiles and are “evil”, and that extending the same rights that all citizens have been endowed with by our creator to GLBT people will lead to the “sexual exploitation” of children. They also claim that the object of the “Gay agenda”, which is actually to have the same rights as the rest of the citizenry, is to destroy Christianity, so it wants the government to criminalize Gay people.

Jeff Session spoke at a recent ADF gathering and declared,

“We have gotten to the point… where one group can actively target religious groups by labeling them a ‘hate group’ on the basis of their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

He seems to ignore that the group he supports and sympathizes with is a group that targets people on the basis of its own sincerely held religious beliefs, and that group is a Christian one, and a one that desires special rights based on their choice of religion.

No one is born Christian, they have to choose to be, or are made to be by baptism not too long after birth when unable to make any decisions.

If you are victimized by anyone in the name of religion, you are the bad guy for objecting to your victimization. And never mind that they ignore established law to victimize you.

He condemned those who consider ADF a hate group, because he claimed they are bullying and intimidating that group which merely wants special status claiming religious freedom is the constitutional right of the American people.

He also said that he doesn’t believe that the ADF is a hate group.

Sessions seems ignorant of the fact that hate is hate regardless of what that hate is based on or what excuse is used to justify it.

Hate groups are those groups that vilify others because of their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability, and encourage others to commit hateful acts against them.

To favor people based on their religion over other citizens, Jeff Sessions has created the Religious Liberty Task Force in the Justice Department whose job it will be to protect those groups who mistreat other citizens from being considered hate groups.

The task force will engage in outreach to the public, religious communities, and religious liberty organizations to protect and promote religious liberty.

Ignoring the objections that the majority of people have toward the actions of those who excuse their abusive and discriminatory treatment of American citizens by saying their religion calls for it, and not questioning why there are such objections, Sessions said the cultural climate in the United States has become less hospitable to people of faith.

Those who attack people feel that their freedom to do so is under attack when people fight back.

Sessions feels that while it is wrong to ask judicial and executive branch nominees about dogma because the Constitution explicitly forbids a religious test for public office, he seems to simply ignore that they can foist their religious beliefs on the rest of us through court rulings based on their religion not our laws and by enacting laws based on them as well, and people have a right to know if they will do that, to what extent they will, and exactly what religious beliefs they intend to give precedence to in order to supercede law.

While resisting and even denying to protect people who have been attacked or threatened because of their sexual orientation by people claiming they acted on a religious belief, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division has obtained 12 indictments for alleged attacks or threats against people because of their religion under Trump.

Simply put, Jeff Sessions is extending special rights to those who have made a personal choice, and allowing them to pick and choose what laws they will follow, a privilege the rest of us do not have.
