But Rand Paul is not an expert in this area.

And Rush knows how people can use a faux disability to their advantage.

Rush Limbaugh was a student at Southeast Missouri State in 1969 with a 2-S (college deferment) Selective Service System classification, but when he dropped out at the end of his freshman year in 1970 he lost that deferment and faced a 1-A rating and a good chance to get drafted.

Instead, he was classified as 1-Y which qualified him for being drafted for service only in time of declared war or national emergency. He would only fight in Viet Nam if he volunteered to go.

His new, and safe, classification was based on a physical problem which was reported to the Armed Forces Entrance Examining Station by his family physician, not a military doctor.

According to Paul D, Colford, his biographer Limbaugh insisted that he was not drafted during the Vietnam War because he had been classified 4-F (it was actually 1-Y) after a physical found that he had an “inoperable pilonidal cyst” and “a football knee from high school”. So to his convenient excuse of the cyst, he further compounds things by misrepresenting the timeline.

Rush claimed in response to a caller to his show, who accused him of dodging the draft because of a “boil on his butt”, that the story behind this alleged reason for his deferment was “part of popular mythology that is out there that I have not whined nor complained about. But that is just a bunch of internet BS and hyperbole. Never happened. Was not the cause, wasn’t the case”.

He could have claimed in truth it was because of a football injury, but when he objected to this caller’s accusation, he did not point out he was legitimately deferred from service because of the football injury.

So, while others may have been excused from service because of college deferments, conscientious objector status, or an ongoing and permanent medical condition, Rush just did not have a cyst removed from his butt, and someone else had to go fight in his stead.

So, yeah, Rush knows about people who game the system because “you can get on disability for practically nothing these days”, just as he was able to avoid service to his country.
