In the future

It’s happening in Texas, the state that prepared itself for the federal government martial law takeover that was supposed to be hidden behind the Jade Helm military exercise, but never happened, so it may not come as much of a surprise.

1/6 of the state’s school aged children are being home schooled. That is roughly 300,000 students.

This is not in and of itself a bad thing, if it is done right and the kids are learning.

Texas, like 10 other states, requires neither the registration of home-schooled children nor any proof that the kids are making any educational progress.

Without oversight, or any established requirements, Texas has to assume that the curriculum that home-schooling parents are following meets the basic levels in reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and citizenship.

But, some of the families who are homeschooling their children actually are not teaching them anything because they believe that would be a waste of time what with the Rapture about to happen.

One family, that of Laura and Michael McIntyre, started homeschooling its nine kids at the family owned motorcycle dealership in El Paso, Texas, owned by Michael McIntyre and his brother, Tracy.

Tracy overheard one of the kids saying they didn’t need an education because “they were going to be Raptured.” He also noticed that no matter how many times he saw the kids, he never saw them doing any school work.

He reported the family and his concern to the El Paso school district.

The kids’ paternal grandparents also met with school district officials about what they saw as a lack of education.

When asked by school officials about the studies they were providing, the McIntyres refused to give any information about their curriculum.

The apparent lack of education became more certain when Tori, the McIntyre’s 17 year old daughter, ran away from home because she wanted an education, and her education level could not be ascertained by the school district.

Tired of the constant refusals by her parents to supply requested information, the El Paso school district eventually filed truancy charges, and the family finally addressed the issue by asking a Court for “injunctive relief and damages.”

Injunctive relief is defined as a court-ordered act or prohibition against an act or condition which has been requested, and sometimes granted, in a petition to the court for an injunction. Such an act is the use of judicial (court) authority to handle a problem, and is not a judgment for money. Whether the relief will be granted is usually argued by both sides in a hearing rather than in a full-scale trial, although sometimes it is part of a lawsuit for damages and/or contract performance. Historically, the power to grant injunctive relief stems from English equity courts rather than damages from law courts.

And so the need for including damages which is the sum of money the law imposes for a breach of some duty or violation of some right.

They lost the case because as Chief Justice Ann Crawford McClure of the 8th Court of Appeals wrote:
“No parents have ever prevailed in any reported case on a theory that they have an absolute constitutional right to educate their children in the home, completely free of any state supervision, regulation, or requirements.”

Rachel Coleman, executive director of the Coalition for Responsible Home Education, reinforced the court decision when she said,
“Parents should be allowed to decide how to educate their children, not whether to educate their children.”

However the Texas Home School Coalition Association advises parents not to share information with school districts, other than to ‘verify’ that their children are receiving home schooling.

The McIntyres are claiming that the school district is biased against Christians and is exercising “ sweeping governmental power”.

When the McIntyres say they are homeschooling their kids, no one knows what that means, not even family

To date, 8 of the original children have left home with practically no education, and there has been no rapture to spare them from the need to survive without an education.

The Rapture is a relatively new idea when it comes to the Christian religions, and the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, the Anglican Communion, and many Protestant Calvinist denominations reject it.

So far the predictions of Rapture have been incorrect, and often embarrassing.

William Miller predicted that Christ would return between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844, then revised his prediction to October 22, 1844, claiming to have miscalculated Scripture.

The Jehova’s Witneses have predicted Rapture in1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, and are still at it.

Chuck Smith, considered to be “one of the most influential figures in modern American Christianity” predicted that Jesus would probably return by 1981.

(I know. You are thinking Ronald Reagan)

Radio evangelist Harold Camping predicted September 6, 1994 as the time of Rapture, but then he revised it to May 21, 2011. When nothing happened, he claimed that a non-visible “spiritual judgment” had taken place, and that the physical rapture would be postponed until October 21, 2011. Nothing happened then either, except that one rich guy got rid of all he had worked for in his life because it would no longer be needed, and Camping won the Ig Nobel Prize, which is a parody of the Nobel Prizes and is given out annually in early October for ten unusual or trivial achievements in scientific research.

Meanwhile kids whose future success depends on a good education did not get that because something may or may not happen sooner or later, perhaps.
