Cracks in the platform

A political party’s platform outlines the key ideas and beliefs of the party, but it doesn’t bind presidential candidates to any particular policy  or to even look to it for guidance.

The Republican platform has been finished and will shortly go before the delegates at the convention in Cleveland.

Although it might sound good, it is obvious that this time around the platform is a collection of belief statements with little hope that the presumptive GOP nominee will follow them.

Here are some examples of that.

“The greatest asset of the American economy is the hard-working American. The high rates of unemployment over the last three and a half years-disastrously high among youth, minorities, and veterans-have thus been a tragic waste of energy and ideas”.

“International trade is crucial for our economy. It means more American jobs, higher wages, and a better standard of living. Every $1 billion in additional U.S. exports means another 5,000 jobs here at home.

The Republican presidential nominee produces his signature line of clothing in such places as China and Mexico.

The nominee’s chosen vice presidential nominee has stated that the minimum wage is “excessive”, “one of the most anti-minority, anti-poor laws that we can bring into this Congress”, and “violates fundamental free market economics”.

Mike Pence also supports Right to Work which allows an employer to grossly underpay an employee and fire an employee with no good reason and without due process.

He also supports repealing the prevailing wage, and opposes expanding workers’ rights.

The presidential nominee stated in one of the debates that wages in the United States are too high, and he has imported foreign workers to build his empire while paying them below minimum wage

“We reaffirm our support for a Constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. We applaud the citizens of the majority of States which have enshrined in their constitutions the traditional concept of marriage, and we support the campaigns underway in several other States to do so.”

The presidential nominee has been married three time, and married his second and third wives after having first cheated on the first and then the second wife.

“The rights of citizenship do not stop at the ballot box. They include the free speech right to devote one’s resources to whatever cause or candidate one supports. We oppose any restrictions or conditions that would discourage Americans from exercising their constitutional right to enter the political fray or limit their commitment to their ideals”.

The nominee has stated he would like to change the laws allowing freedom of speech so that he can sue, and make money from those suits, anyone who speaks negatively of him.

“Faithful to the “self-evident” truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed”.

It is also available discover over here buy levitra with various flavors which taste like fruits flavors. Yet their nominee has been pro-choice up until he decided to run as the Republican candidate for the presidency.

“Current laws on all forms of pornography and obscenity need to be vigorously enforced”.

The nominee has a wife who can be seen in pictures barely dressed, and has himself been on the cover of most kids’ first foray into porn, Playboy.

He has also stated that if she weren’t his underage daughter, he would have sex with Ivanka.

“We support the prohibition of gambling over the Internet and call for reversal of the Justice Department’s decision distorting the formerly accepted meaning of the Wire Act that could open the door to Internet betting”.

Apparently the distaste for gambling only applies to on-line gambling since the GOP nominee has had casinos as part of his empire which, having gone bankrupt more than once, removes any deniability that he promotes gambling.

“The foundation of our military lies in the men and women who wear our country’s uniform, whether on active duty or in the Reserves and National Guard, and the families who support them. The members of our military should be treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

Combat readiness also requires that we reserve troops for truly necessary operations by not overextending them around the world.

We pledge to maintain their manpower and equipment strength and to ensure their members receive the pay, benefits, and adequate training to continue their service and maintain mission readiness through Presidential leadership and Congressional budget support. Their historic and continuing role as citizen-soldiers is a proud tradition linking every community across America to the cause of freedom. We affirm service members’ legal right to return to their civilian jobs, whether in government or the private sector, and we urge greater transition assistance to and from employers as they return to the civilian world. Especially in light of the high unemployment rates faced by younger Reserve and Guard members, we salute those employers who have wisely decided that it is a smart and patriotic business decision to hire those who have served above and beyond the call of duty.

The families of our military personnel currently serving, retired service members, and veterans must also be assured of the pay, health care, housing, education, and overall support they have earned. We will ensure that the federal government keeps its commitments to those who signed on the dotted line of enlistment with the assurance that those promises would be kept. We must also do more to retain the services of those service members who have borne the fight since 2001.

We must acknowledge that as our troops have experienced repeated deployments, so have their families. We are committed to providing programs that offer readjustment information and counseling to our military families, and urge States to offer support for job programs, license reciprocity, one-stop service centers, and education programs to support these families. The nation must also recognize the ultimate sacrifice of survivors and protect their benefits. We will work to protect service members and their families by not overextending their deployments.

America has a sacred trust with our veterans, and we are committed to providing them and their families with care and dignity.

We are committed to ending homelessness for our veterans. One key is to assist their reentry into the job market as soon as possible after military service ends.”

They claim to respect the dignity of those in service, but their nominee has stated that his Viet Nam was all about chasing women as he avoided service claiming to have has bone spurs on one of his feet, but continuing to play tennis and baseball at school.

When asked, he couldn’t recall which foot, o his campaign has decided to say it was both of them o cover all possibilities  .

He also claimed that because he went to a military boarding school he had more training and experience than deployed troops.

Pence, meanwhile, during his time in congress voted against increasing funding for VA medical care programs, voted against providing $1.3 Billion for VA healthcare, and voted against increasing veterans and defense healthcare spending by a combined $4.8 Billion.

Just from these examples found in a quick web search, there seems to be a difference between the lofty language of the GOP platform, and the person they have chosen to promote it.
