The rest of the time he sported a decal of the American flag on the passenger side rear window of his cab, and a Stars and Bars decal behind the driver’s seat.

He explained that these were the symbols of “We the People”.

I guess it never dawned on him that the passenger side decal and the meaning he attached to it was a little insulting to the memory of those veterans of the Civil War buried in any of Cape Cod’s numerous cemeteries that he drove by while waving his flag and claiming to be the most American person on the road.

 

Whenever I find myself in the car during certain parts of the day, I turn to conservative talk radio.

I don’t do this because I need the fix.

I do it so I can hear not only what slanted news the host is passing on, but, by  the number and content of those calling in,  can gauge how much of that is being accepted as truth.

Sadly, too much is being accepted no matter how outlandish.

The other day I was doing a short distance errand, and only had time to hear a little Rush Limbaugh.

He was covering the Robin Williams suicide story.

Of course, he came to this conclusion because Fox News had presented that, and what more reliable source of good, solid information is there other than Fox.

But then he went back to being Rush, “I mean, it fits a certain picture, or a certain image that the left has.”

When Obama was first elected president, I and many people I know quickly grew frustrated that he was too nice.

He seemed to be of the erroneous opinion that if he played the middle of the road and compromised, his opposition would meet him half way.

The Republicans and the media seemed to have taken a strong grasp of the discourse without being corrected with facts and history.

In spite of what they know to be true, Republican talking points such as the president has done nothing to reduce the national debt, has run it up higher than any other president, has taken more vacations than any previous president, and has overused the power of the executive order, no one seems to be bothered correcting those falsehoods

So, what was my surprise when a reporter asked a question based on what people just accepted as the way things were, and Republicans have pushed, but that a true journalist acknowledging facts would not have asked because it was based on a media urban legend. And it was obvious, minus the eye rolling and the obviously unspoken question, “What the hell are you thinking?” the president was tired of this and finally said it like it was, but, perhaps a little too late.

Now, while Jesus said his arrival would be quiet,  there are those who claim there will be trumpets, white horses, and fantastic cloud formations.

So here we have Jesus saying that when he comes back it will be at an unknown time under quiet circumstances, and that we should be kind to even the most unfortunate person because it could be Him.

So I wonder.

What if among the children coming from Central America facing some very unchristian reactions from the faithful, there is one very quiet and unassuming kid who is actually a little more than what He appears to be?
