a trope is a trope

Remember the outcry when people so easily accepted that Representative Ilham Omar was being Anti-semitic when she decried the influence of AIPAC on Congress. A political organization with a small membership compared to the total ethnicity, religion  and the population of a country  of which some members belong has become, apparently, the representative of the same whether or not there is support or membership.

Pointing out that referring to the “Benjamins” promised to legislators was somehow an appeal to an anti-Jewish trope instead of it being seen as exposing that some Congress members are too easily bought. In this instance, there had been a recent event that made this unpleasant revelation relevant at the time, but, distraction being a powerful tactic, those to whom it applied went with the anti-semitic trope claim to misdirect away from their guilt. She wears a Hijab, so, of course, she hates Jews.

No trope there.

But all tropes are bad and the wailing and gnashing of teeth was deafening.

A spokesperson for the White House said that Donald Thump opposes the Equality Act because,

“The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, this bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights.”

The Equality Act would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other civil rights legislation banning job, housing, credit, and other forms of discrimination against GLBT people at the federal level.

The “poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights,” obviously calls to mind that GLBT people are against families and are against the realistic use of conscience, and being treated like all other citizens is somehow special and threatening.

How does this threaten “parental and conscience rights” unless conscience rights means discrimination based on religion?

And what about Gay parents whose spouses and children rely on  jobs, housing, credit, and health care that someone can take away and prevent?

Trump has already issued guidelines that allow health care workers to refuse to provide medical care if they have personal or religious objections to it.

Wouldn’t this be a parental threat as there are already cases of pediatricians refusing to deal with infants who have same sex parents?

In a 2000 Trump said,

With the PDE5 enzyme inhibited, blood flow to the pelvic area has to be refurbished. cialis uk Problems associated with the TMJ are known cialis tadalafil as temporomandibular joint disorder or dysfunction (TMD). It would be simple. It would be straightforward.

We don’t need to rewrite the laws currently on the books, although I do think we need to address hate-crimes legislation. But amending the Civil Rights Act would grant the same protection to Gay people that we give to other Americans — it’s only fair.”

In a theocracy some tropes are acceptable.

Evangelicals have blamed GLBT people for earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, fires, and terrorism. They said marriage equality would make straight people’s marriages dissolve and bring about a global financial crisis.

One of their loudest voices and the promoter of anti-GLBT misinformation, Pat Robertson opposes the Equality Act because,

“This is a devastating blow to religious freedom and to the sanctity of America. If you want to bring the judgment of God on this nation, you just keep this stuff up. You know, I was reading in Leviticus where it said, ‘Because of these things, the land will vomit you out.’ Vomit you out. I think God will say, ‘I’ve had it with America, if you do this kind of stuff, I’m going to get rid of you as a nation’.”

He went on to say this would happen because of “the potential of atomic war” and the possible attack on the nation’s electric grid.

This is the guy who made the claims that:

In 1994 we caused severe earthquake that hit Los Angeles.

In 1998 flying the Pride flags for Gay Days at Disney World in Orlando would bring God’s wrath in the form of a hurricane, which, by the way, the next hurricane missed Florida and hit Virginia where his HQ is.

September 11, 2001, was caused by the pagans, the abortionists, the feminists, and the Gays and the lesbians..”

In 2015 “Roberson predicted Gay people would cause the world’s financial system to collapse.

This is an example of who Trump wants to keep happy at the expense of U.S. citizens.
